Guinea Fowl
Guinea Fowl are lively, spotted birds originally from the open plains and woodlands of Africa. They’ve since become popular on farms and in wildlife parks across Australia thanks to their hardiness, quirky behaviour, and usefulness.
Highly social, Guinea Fowl move in flocks and are constantly chattering with each other. Their loud, distinctive calls make them excellent “watchdogs” as they’ll often alert the whole paddock if something unusual is going on!
These birds are also fantastic foragers, feeding on seeds, weeds, small insects, and even ticks, which makes them natural pest controllers. With a little space and shelter, they thrive in a variety of environments and require very little care.
Female guinea fowl (hens) lay up to 100 eggs a year when conditions are right, and their nests are often hidden in bushes or tall grass. Males and females have different calls, so listen closely — you might be able to tell them apart just by their voices.
At our park, Guinea Fowl help manage bugs while entertaining visitors with their chatter, quick movements, and striking spotted feathers. See if you can spot their helmet-like crests or catch them dust-bathing in the sun!
