Spend 10 or 30 minutes inside the dingo enclosure with one of our resident dingoes and a trained keeper.
Learn what makes the dingo Australia’s keystone native predator, then get hands-on with one of the most misunderstood animals on the continent. We’re on the Great Ocean Road in Victoria, just outside Apollo Bay.
What is a dingo encounter?
A dingo encounter is a guided, hands-on experience inside a controlled enclosure with one of our resident dingoes. A trained keeper leads a short education session, then takes you in to meet, pat and photograph the animal under close supervision. It’s one of the only places in Victoria you can interact this directly with a dingo.
Choose your encounter
Express Encounter (10 minutes)
A short introduction to dingo ecology, conservation and behaviour, plus a brief in-enclosure meet and greet. Best for guests on a tight schedule, or families easing younger children into the experience.
Deep-Dive Encounter (about 30 minutes)
A longer, two-part experience. First, a keeper-led session covering dingo biology, their long history on this continent, and their ecological role. Then a hands-on interaction in the enclosure with time for questions, photos and quiet observation.
Why we run dingo encounters
The more you know about an animal, the more you care. Dingoes aren’t wild dogs. They’re Australia’s keystone native predator, present on this continent for at least 4,000 years and central to the health of every ecosystem they belong to. Every encounter is a chance to replace fear with understanding, and turn a park visit into advocacy.

Who can do a dingo encounter?
- Ages 6 to 14

Not eligible. Dingoes are sensitive, top-order predators, so we keep them and very young children apart for everyone’s safety. - Adults and teens
No upper age limit. - Group size
Up to 10 guests per session, so every guest gets close keeper attention. - Schools, tour groups and bus tours
Welcome on tailored sessions. See our Dingo Education page.
When do encounters run?
Every hour, 7 days a week, as an add-on to general park entry. Sessions are subject to weather and animal welfare. If a day is too hot or the dingoes need it quieter, we may reschedule.
How do I book?
Bookings are recommended, especially in holiday periods. Each session has only 10 spots and they fill.
- Online booking (fastest): use the Book Now button on this page.
- At the front desk: walk-ins welcome subject to availability.
- Schools, group tours and bus tours: contact us for a tailored quote and timing.
What should I know on the day?
- Arrive a few minutes before your session so you don’t miss the safety and education briefing.
- Follow the keeper’s instructions throughout, including if asked to leave the enclosure.
- No food, drink or flash photography inside the enclosure.
- Photos are for personal use unless arranged with management in advance.
- Dingo behaviour varies day to day, so your experience may differ from someone else’s.
Cancellations and refunds
Online bookings cancelled at least 24 hours in advance receive a full refund. No-shows are non-refundable except in extenuating circumstances. If we cancel due to weather or animal welfare, we’ll reschedule where possible, or refund in full.
Take the mission home
The encounter is the start of the conversation, not the end. If our dingoes spark something for you, take a copy of Dawn of a Dingo Day home with you. A beautifully illustrated booklet by Yosef Lasarow with a foreword from Lyn Watson (Australian Dingo Foundation).
All proceeds fund our Dingo Awareness campaign.
