Geese

Geese

Geese are social, intelligent birds best known for their long necks, bold personalities, and loud honking calls. Originally descended from wild geese in Europe and Asia, they’ve lived alongside humans for thousands of years and are now a familiar sight on farms and in parks across Australia.

These birds love open spaces, grassy paddocks, and access to water. They’re excellent grazers, using their specially shaped beaks to nip grass close to the ground. Their diet also includes herbs, grains, and the occasional small insect, making them a natural part of a healthy farm ecosystem.

Geese are deeply loyal animals. They form strong bonds with their flock, and often mate for life. You’ll usually see them in small family groups or pairs, waddling, grazing, or swimming together. They’re also highly alert and will often honk loudly if something unusual catches their attention.

Here at the park, our geese help manage grass naturally and delight visitors with their curious, chatty nature. Watch for head bobs, wing flaps, and their unique way of ‘talking’ to each other as they move around the grounds.
